November 2016 - Featured Recipe

Hello to all of you AWESOME folks!

Our farming season is wrapping up, only major thing left to do is to plant our amazing garlic in the ground! It is unusual for it to be so warm here at this time of year. The ground needs to be cold otherwise the garlic will try to sprout. If that happens and then the cold weather hits we will lose them.

FYI~ I am looking at packaging some of our naturally dehydrated organic garlic flakes, crumbles & powder in the new year. You get all the powerful taste & health benefits without the smelly cloves. Send us an email if you would be interested in seeing this as a new product offered by Suede Hills.

Recipe(s) For A Vibrant Life

An update for all those folks who have been asking "When is the recipe book going to be available?" To the best of my knowledge it should be ready the end of this month or early December. Here is what happened... I had it complete, or so I thought.

  • I showed Phil the first copy. He says, "Looks good but needs more pictures!"
  • I showed it to Linda in the officeshe says, "It's making me hungry, but needs more pictures!"
  • I show it to a friend. She says,"It needs more pictures, I never make the recipes if they don't have pictures!"

So, I have spent the last few weeks re-making all of these recipes so I can take a picture of them! I had forgotten how enjoyable they were, especially the cooked food ones, since we have been eating mostly raw food recipes for the last year.

I was given a large supply of cabbage from one of the generous farmers at our local Farmers' Market last week, so I decided to satisfy a craving I have had for awhile...Cabbage Rolls! This recipe gives me the cabbage roll taste I am after and in less than 45 minutes!

Cabbage Rolls Without the Work!

Start by making the rice of your choice. Then set aside. (I make potatoes for Phil)

In a deep-dish frying pan add,

  • 1-2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 2 medium Onions, peeled & chopped
  • 2 Vegan veggie broth cubes
  • 1 teaspoon Mrs. Dash
  • 1 teaspoon Pink Himalayan Salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cloves, ground
  • 2 Tablespoons Maple Syrup
  • 2 Tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar

Stir, then add,

  • 4-6 medium fresh Tomatoes, chopped (more if necessary)
  • 1/2 head Cabbage, finely sliced & chopped

Combine the ingredients, simmer on low until the cabbage wilts. Serve over cooked rice, potatoes or other satisfying carb!

Though I prefer to eat mostly raw food, it is a good compromise to eat tasty vegan cooked dishes every once in a while. We find that when the weather turns colder nothing beats a warm meal. We encourage you to eat at least one raw veg or fruit at each meal so your body has something fresh to work with.
